Icons by Hour

An ongoing project exploring iconography in relation to time

Brief

Icons by Hour is a self-initiated project that explores iconography in relation to time. The aim of the project was to give myself a platform to refine my craft in icon design by documenting everyday objects and actions in a simple visual form. The concept of the project is based on chronology; each minute of the day is represented by an icon contextual to that specific time. The icons form a visual narrative, giving a flow that represents a day in the life minute by minute.

Result

To showcase the Icons by Hour collection and give myself a future-proof framework for new icons, I created a small responsive website purely from svg files. The icons were also featured on the The Noun Project, receiving thousands of monthly downloads, and a selection of icons were used in an article for The Atlantic Magazine.
